Meet The Team
Partners in the Craft
Mike Kertes and Dan Rautenberg grew up in Cape Elizabeth and worked side-by-side as subcontractors for three and a half years before founding KR Builders. Today, they bring a combined twenty years of experience to every project and the same standard that started the company: partnership, craftsmanship, and honest work from start to finish.
Mike Kertes
Co-Founder
Mike attended Cape Elizabeth High School and was a three sport athlete all four years. He played football at Plymouth State University where he studied Chemistry for 3 years prior to moving to Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
After one summer working for his cousin, a high end custom home builder on Martha’s Vineyard, Mike fell in love with the trade and didn’t look back. He worked for two years on Cape Cod before he moved back to Maine to begin working for himself.
As subcontractors, Dan and Mike worked together for various builders and then started KR Builders Inc. In his spare time Mike enjoys fishing, golfing and traveling to his parents camp on Flagstaff Lake in Eustis, ME.
Dan Rautenberg
Co-Founder
Dan Rautenberg grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. After graduating high school, he went on to play junior hockey for three years in Boston. Dan then went on to spend four years studying business and playing hockey at the University of Southern Maine, where he captained the team his senior year.
Dan spent his summers learning the carpentry trade from his father, who is a well-known carpenter and cabinet maker in the Cape Elizabeth area. When he finished school, he decided to start working under his own name doing carpentry. This led to Dan and Mike working together for three and a half years before deciding to start KR Builders, Inc.
He still enjoys playing hockey and golf as well as spending free weekends with his wife Clara, their families, and animals at their Winnipesaukee cottage.
